Our History

Every great journey starts with a spark—and ours ignited in 2009, when Chris Torre, VMD, and his veterinary school classmates set out to make a difference beyond the classroom. Partnering with the world-renowned Vet4 Animal Hospital in Bangkok, Thailand, they launched what would become the first Global PAWS mission: a bold blend of education, service, and compassion.

What began as a group of passionate veterinary students has grown into a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of animals, people, and future veterinarians. Each year, we select a new group of students to join us on this life-changing journey.

The Thailand Mission has continued annually since its inception, providing essential veterinary services to communities managing overpopulation and preventable diseases. Before a mission the team undergoes intensive training in surgical principles, anesthesia, and field operations—ensuring they are prepared to serve with skill and confidence.

On-site, we deliver spay/neuter services, veterinary care, and community education, making a tangible impact on pet overpopulation and improving public health.

In 2025, we expanded our mission: welcoming veterinary students from all AVMA-accredited schools and growing our global presence by forging new partnerships and delivering veterinary outreach to underserved communities around the world.

Global PAWS continues to evolve, but one thing has never changed: our heart and purpose, rooted in compassion since day one. From the very beginning, we’ve been deeply committed to providing accessible animal care, outreach, and sterilization services—making a lasting impact, one animal, one person, and one community at a time.
